Unlike many US domestic record companies, which mass produced and used recycled vinyl for their huge market, Japanese vinyl records utilized superior virgin vinyl for their pressings, which resulted in dead-quiet, audiophile-grade pressings! Japanese mastering is also considered by many as the finest on the planet! Many Japanese lp sets include bonus tracks and special inserts, such as posters and photo pinups, typically not included with domestic releases. Japanese releases were also produced with significantly better jacket materials, and included the beautiful, highly collectible and decorative Obi strips. These Obi strips identify the album in Japanese text, describing the artist, album contents and pricing! Some releases include special additional narrow red w/white text Obi strips identifying and commemorating a group's tour visit to Japan. Japanese lp's were not produced in huge quantities, like US editions, therefore there are significantly fewer copies left in circulation, which also means that the stampers had fewer runs, which resulted in more consistent pressing quality throughout the vinyl pressing process. As an example, the original late 1970's and early 1980's productions and issues of Mobile Fidelity vinyl pressings, were made in Japan
