Antique 1860s Nine Patch Summer Quilt Presenting an Antique Nine Patch patchwork quilt dating from 1860 to 1870s or earlier and skillfully entirely hand sewn, with a X quilting design in each square. A great cotton country quilt. This quilt is in as found condition. Entirely hand stitched patchwork quilt, 9 patch design. Small scale printed calico repeat madder and chocolate prints with all the prints dating to the 1860's. Would look lovely in your summer cottage decor home or as a wall hanging art. A wonderful example of Americana folk art. This quilt is reminiscent of a very grand and regal period when quilters had time to skillfully finish a quilt. CONDITION In very good condition, with few stains scattered about. No fading, no repairs, very little damage. Age related conditions for being 160+ years old. There are hand done stitching, throughout at 8 - 9 tiny stitches to the inch. Backing material is a brown and white calico with leaf pattern print cotton and with no batting fillers. Binding is rolled from the back to the front and hand stitched. This is a 1860's quilt and cotton at that time was picked by slaves. You also could say that this cotton is organic, pre chemical days. The quilt would work on a queen sized bed and is in good, unwashed condition. APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS The size is a generous 84" x 83". Each block measuring approx. 11-1/2" x 11-1/2" square. Standard double bed is 54" wide x 78" long. Queen bed is 60" wide x 80" long. King bed is 78" wide x 82" long.
