ANTIQUE CHIMNEY SWEEP PATCHWORK QUILT, WITH WILD GOOSE CHASE BORDER , CIRCA 1850 Presenting a cotton 1850 to 1860 Chimney Sweep quilt with wild goose chase patchwork border surrounding the bed covering quilt on all four sides. ALL hand stitched, and ALL hand pieced and hand quilted A great visual country quilt straight out of a local estate farmhouse auction.. A white, black and red floral cotton print cotton of mid century is used to make the chimney sweep pattern design and wild goose chase border. There are hand done stitching, throughout at 9 stitches to the inch. The quilt consists of straight line, criss - crossing and V shape diagonal stitching. Colors are still bright and vivid with no fading. The batting has a medium thin thickness. All hand sewn, binding hand sewn back to front. Condition: In as found condition, and in very good condition, with no repairs, two small rips, an easy fix, and no odors. This quilt has never been washed. Found in an early farm house attic around Rochester, N.Y. Because this quilt was not stored properly it has many oxidation storage spots throughout. With its first soaking these will disappear, they always do. I have not laundered this quilt. MEASUREMENTS: 90" x 75". Full size. This quilt is reminiscent of a very grand and regal period when quilters had time to skillfully finish a quilt.
